COFCO Fortune Plaza, where COFCO’s headquarters are located, turned off lights for an hour to support the Earth Hour activity on March 26, 2011, by which COFCO showed its sense of social responsibility.

COFCO also edited a special magazine for this event for internal use, which called for its staff to participate in the activity.

This is an addition to the efforts made by COFCO in the environment protection. COFCO follows the business model featuring the harmony between human and nature. COFCO integrates its businesses to control the origination, avoid over-use of fertilizers and pesticides, rationalize the utilization of land and build up its capacities in preventing and controlling the pollution from using fertilizers and pesticides and the pollution in rearing poultry and livestock.

COFCO also makes more investment in planting, production, processing and logistics, improving technologies to save energy and reduce emission. It invested RMB 250 million in the environment protection in 2009 to handle waste water, waste gas, noises and reclaimed water. It is also active in R&D of renewable energies, trying to play its part in the climate change and shortage of energy.
