On December 8, 2005, 140 students of the Xinjiang Agricultural University were awarded scholarships from the “COFCO Scholarship Award” and another 97 students received COFCO tuition assistance awards.
The “COFCO Scholarship Award” was set up by COFCO in July of this year with funding of 5 million yuan, mainly to assist the children of ordinary families cultivating non-staple crops such as tomatoes, sugar beets and fruit. The fund encourages outstanding students in majors related to agriculture. The top award is 5,000 yuan.
The award ceremony was witnessed by the senior economist of COFCO and chairman of the Xinjiang Tunhe Co., Ltd., Zheng Hongbo.
