COFCO International Publishes Its 2021 Sustainability Report Release Time : 2022-10-10
Recently, COFCO International has published its 2021 Sustainability Report, Transforming Agriculture in a Changing World at its headquarters in Geneva. The report covers the Company’s progress in enhancing the resilience of global grain supply chain, facilitating sustainable agriculture, tackling climate change and promoting energy conservation and emission reduction.

According to the report, as COFCO Corporation’s specialized company engaged in overseas agri-products business, COFCO International continues to improve its global business presence by overcoming various difficulties brought about by the pandemic and goes all out to guarantee the normal operation of global grain supply chain through the joint efforts of its 11,000 employees in 37 countries and regions. While maintaining global food security, COFCO International also strives to advance the resolution of environmental and social issues of common concern to the international community. The report elaborates the five core areas of its sustainability strategy: connecting supply and demand, taking care of its people, managing its environmental impact, building strong communities and upholding standards.

In order to address the issue of deforestation and vegetation degradation in Latin America’s agricultural practices, COFCO International is committed to achieving a deforestation and conversion-free soy supply chain by 2030 in sensitive regions of Latin America such as Amazon, Cerrado and Gran Chaco through farm-level traceability and monitoring of all purchases. In addition, COFCO International has joined a COP 26 industry pledge to reduce supply chain carbon emissions in line with efforts to keep global warming below 1.5 degrees, with a major focus on eliminating deforestation.

In the report, David Dong, CEO of COFCO International says, “We have leveraged our flexibility and innovative capacity to build resilience in uncertain times, while prioritizing the safety of our people and the continuity of our supply chains.”

He also reaffirms that “Now, more than ever, we recognize the importance of a healthy climate and ecosystem for a thriving agricultural sector. We remain steadfast in our commitment to feed the world responsibly and help transform the global food system.”

The COFCO International 2021 Sustainability Report has been prepared according to the Global Reporting Initiative (GRI) standards and is available in four languages (English, Chinese, Spanish and Portuguese) on the website: www.cofcointernational.com/sustainability.
