COFCO International has loaded the first large-scale shipment of Brazilian sorghum destined for China at its STS11 terminal in the Port of Santos and received final phytosanitary clearance from Brazil's Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock (MAPA).

The Guo Yuan 26 bulk carrier departed carrying approximately 69,000 tonnes of sorghum, marking the first export of Brazilian sorghum to China and the opening of a new agricultural trade flow between the two countries. The shipment follows the entry into force of the phytosanitary protocol for Brazilian sorghum exports signed by Brazil and China in November 2024.

The shipment is expected to arrive at Nansha Port in Guangzhou after a 45-day voyage, where it will be distributed by COFCO Trading.

The new export channel creates additional demand for Brazilian sorghum, offering farmers greater market access and new opportunities to capture value from their production.
